The 5/5 Commitment: Give the gift of family

We are looking for 20 special Child Protection Patrons to donate 5 lakh INR annually for 5 years, becoming a catalyst in transitioning abandoned and orphaned children in India into the legal adoption pool. We know it is not a small ask, but your commitment here has the power to change the destiny of numerous children, offering them a life beyond the confines of shelters-into the nurturing embrace of a family.

The stark reality and our mission

As per the Ministry of Women and Child Development’s 2018 report, there are 3.5 – 4 lakh children in child shelters, yet less than 2,000 are in the legal adoption pool at any given time. Contrast this with the 34,000+ prospective parents waiting to adopt, and the gap is both staggering and heart-wrenching. Despite the provision of meals, education, and medical care in shelters, many children emerge under-nourished, undereducated, and emotionally neglected.
Our mission at WAIC is clear: No child belongs in a shelter. Every child deserves the love and security of a family.
We employ technology-driven fieldwork and advocacy to ensure every abandoned and orphaned child is accounted for and processed for legal adoption. Our public awareness campaigns and partnerships with government programs aim to prevent abandonment, trafficking, and infanticide, while promoting safe surrender for adoption.

Why we need your support

The scale of our mission demands consistent, multi-year funding. Your 5/5 Commitment will enable us to sustain and expand our programs across districts and states, bringing us closer to our pan-India vision. This isn’t just a donation; it’s an investment in the future of vulnerable children, breaking the cycle of charity and offering the invaluable gift of a family.

Lalitha's story

Lalitha-where are India's children?

Lalitha was found at an estimated 5 years of age by police near a railway station with burn marks on her body. She was admitted to a children’s shelter. The correct paperwork was done for Lalitha and nobody came forward to claim her, yet she was not declared legally free for adoption.

Lalitha was already 10 years old, when the WAIC team ended up in her shelter for data collection, evaluated her file, and took her case forward. Despite the provision of meals, education, and medical care in shelters, many children emerge under-nourished, undereducated, and emotionally neglected.

With our work, and our donor’s support, Lalitha was declared legally free for adoption in December 2021. Almost as soon as her file was uploaded on the Central Government’s CARINGS adoption portal, Lalitha was matched with a waiting family who were looking for a child of her age. Lalitha went home to her permanent family soon after and we can only wish happiness, health and a joyful future for this little girl.

With your help, we can reach many more children like Lalitha. Please consider being part of the 5/5 Commitment.
