11-year old HIV-positive girl finds her permanent home
She was just five when she was abandoned. Medical tests revealed she was HIV positive.
She moved from one child shelter to another until a Where Are India’s Children caseworker noticed something deeply troubling—there was no record of a living guardian. She was nine by then.
Police investigations followed. A living uncle was traced, but he showed no inclination to take her home. A formal surrender of legal claim was completed, and with sustained effort from WAIC, she was finally placed on the national adoption database as a special needs child.
It took two more years.
She turned eleven in January. And, she boards a flight to France with her adoptive family
Most days in this work are filled with follow-ups, data collection, system insights, compliance, and long hours in government offices. And then there are days like this—when everything feels profoundly worthwhile.
Go on, dear girl. Live your life.
We are all rooting for you.Â
As always, thanks to all our donors, supporters, and well-wishers, on behalf of the children whose cases we work on, and on behalf of our team. #AFamily4EveryChild
